Steering Wheel Locks

Hyundai is introducing a free anti-theft software upgrade to stop the vehicles from starting during a method of theft made famous on TikTok in response to an increase in robberies targeting its vehicles lacking push-button ignitions immobilizing anti-theft devices in the US.  Owners of Hyundai 2017-2020 Elantra, 2015-2019 Sonata, and 2020-2021 Venue vehicles may enter their vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to find out when it is eligible for the software upgrade and find out more information at:

In an effort to combat rising Hyundai vehicle thefts, the University Park Police Department, in partnership with Hyundai Motor America, will give away free steering wheel locks to University Park community members that own or lease a Hyundai manufactured before 2021. University Park community members that live in University Park are eligible.

Community members must come to the University Park Police Station, 650 Burnham Dr., at their scheduled time and will be required to bring their Hyundai along with proof of University Park residency and proof of valid village sticker before being issued a steering wheel lock. The limit is one lock per community member. A scheduled appointment is required and there is a limited supply of steering wheel locks.
